How to Search for your music
Having trouble finding your desired music titles? Try using these helpful hints for the general search found at the top of every page on the Piano Lane website:
LESS IS MORE
DON'T type in "Mozart Sonata in A Major K.331 3rd mvmt Rondo alla turca"
DO search for "alla turca" or "Mozart Sonata 331" or "Sonata K.331"
DON'T type in "Faber & Faber Accelerated Piano Adventures for the Older Beginner"
DO search for "Piano Adventures Older Faber"
or just "Piano Adventures"
DON'T type in "Alfred Publishing Famous & Fun: Classic Themes, Book 1 Carol Matz"
DO search for "Famous Fun Classic"
BESTIf you know the item number, visit our advanced
search page, where you can enter specific information to find the title
you need with one click!.
USE PARTIAL WORDS
Not sure how to spell a word or name? Unsure if we've used the Russian
spelling or English phonetic spelling? Then simply enter part of the
word!
For example, instead of searching for "Rachmaninov" or "Rachmaninoff",
search for "Rach". Instead of searching for "Concerto"
or "Concertino", search for "Concert*".
REPETITION IS REDUNDANT
Instead of "Cha-Cha-Cha" use "Cha"
DON'T GET FANCY
Using unusual characters such as é, ü, &, #, @, etc. may result in an error. While some titles do indeed use foreign or non-standard characters, our search engine is configured to search for the English version of the title. For example, "Für Elise" returns far fewer results than "Fur Elise" does.
YOU CAN QUOTE US
Placing double-quotes around a phrase will search for that exact phrase and nothing else. For example, if you search for "lord of the rings" without quotes, the results include a book that includes all four keywords in its title and description but doesn't have anything to do with the movie franchise. Search for "lord of the rings" in double-quotes, however, and the extra title is omitted.
ADVANCE YOUR CAUSE
If even the above pointers can't help you find your item, then it's time to use the Advanced Search! You can get to this page via the link next to the general search field or using the 2nd purple nav tab on the left of every page.
When using the Advanced Search, the "Less is More" axiom is even more important. If you know the piece you want is published by Henle and composed by Beethoven, then your best bet is to simply choose "G Henle" from the Publisher drill-down menu and type "Beethoven" in the Composer field. This will give you every item on Piano Lane composed by Beethoven that Henle publishes. If your desired edition doesn't appear in that list, then you'll know we don't carry it. Time to send us an e-mail and ask us to acquire it for you!
To use an example from the top of this page, if you want to find the
3rd movement of Mozart's Sonata in A Major, K. 331 "Rondo alla turca",
here's how you'd do it with the Advanced Search: type "turca" into the
Title field and type "Mozart" into the Composer field. This will give
you a results list of every book on Piano Lane with the word "turca"
in the title and "Mozart" as the composer.

Happy Hunting!
